چکیده

Reliability of a software system, or the lack of it, is often reflected in user satisfaction. Software development organizations frequently need to reallocate resources amongst projects to help satisfy user needs better. In this paper, we propose the project-entropy metric to understand the dynamics of such resource allocation across projects. Calculation of the metric is illustrated through an example scenario; and we hypothesize on the existence of an entropic limit for an organization. Open issues and plans of future work are also outlined.

Author Entropy: A Metric for Characterization of Software Authorship Patterns

We propose the concept of author entropy and describe how file-level entropy measures may be used to understand and characterize authorship patterns within individual files, as well as across an entire project. As a proof of concept, we compute author entropy for 28,955 files from 33 open-source projects. We explore patterns of author entropy, identify techniques for visualizing author entropy,...

A Systems Dynamics Model for Project Management systems of Project-Based Organization

It is obvious that the success of a project-based organization is dependent on its projects. A variety of tools such as the project excellence model, project management maturity models, the earned value method, have been developed in this regard, but there are still delays in projects because the projects have dynamic nature with non-linear relationships and feedback processes during the projec...

A Cost-Efficient and Reliable Resource Allocation Model Based on Cellular Automaton Entropy for Cloud Project Scheduling

Resource allocation optimization is a typical cloud project scheduling problem: a problem that limits a cloud system’s ability to execute and deliver a project as originally planned. The entropy, as a measure of the degree of disorder in a system, is an indicator of a system’s tendency to progress out of order and into a chaotic condition, and it can thus serve to measure a cloud system’s relia...

Constrained Renewable Resource Allocation in Fuzzy Metagraphs via Min-Slack

This paper discusses that the fuzzy metagraphs can be used as a tool for scheduling and control of fuzzy projects. Often, available resources for executing projects may be limited. It is assumed the resources required to accomplish each activity of project (metagraph edges) is renewable. One of the common methods for scheduling projects is using the min-slack. So, first, the forward and bac...

A heuristic method for consumable resource allocation in multi-class dynamic PERT networks

This investigation presents a heuristic method for consumable resource allocation problem in multi-class dynamic Project Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) networks, where new projects from different classes (types) arrive to system according to independent Poisson processes with different arrival rates. Each activity of any project is operated at a devoted service station located in a n...
